The Hurley Flyer was photographed this evening off the Grosvenor Breakwater off Sandylands Promenade in Heysham, the Hovercraft is operated by the RNLI as part of their inshore fleet the craft is a modified Griffon Type 470TD and has been operated from Morecambe since 2002, The hovercraft concept was developed to enable the RNLI to operate in tidal area such as Morecambe Bay, the RNLI operates similar hovercraft from Huntstanton, New Brighton and Southend-on-Sea.

The 3.86 tonne hovercraft has a three hour is powered by two VW Turbo diesels and is crewed by between 2 to four crewmen and has a capacity to carry 10 people at speeds of up to 35 mph
